Make sure the cord is rated for 220 volt. I noticed doing research for a recent project that the 10 gauge extension cords at HD, Lowe's, HF are only rated for 125 volts. I had to upgrade to an SJO cord to get it rated to 300 volts.

Don't worry. I went to Metro electric and got everything that was overkill by far. Rich- I was in a pinch and needed to get something welded on before last weekend. It will make a good extension cord when I wire the garage down the road.

I just ran 220 to my garage two weeks ago. I went straight from the box with its own breaker. If you want to check it out if you decide to hard wire yours in, just let me know.
